As of 11.59 pm, Monday 20 September 2021, the construction industry will shut down in Metropolitan Melbourne, City of Ballarat, City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire and Mitchell Shire for a minimum of two weeks.
Premier Daniel Andrews has said the shutdown is due to “continued concern about case numbers, transmission risk and reduced compliance currently in lockdown”.
Unlike previous restrictions to the construction industry, there are strict exemptions which include workers attending sites to:
- Respond to an emergency; or
- Perform urgent and essential work to protect health and safety.
Builders who currently have contracts on foot should be considering submitting Extensions of Time requests (EOT) on their project for at least the next two weeks.
For more information on dealing with extensions of time under COVID-19 read our previous article here.
If you require advice on how to submit an effective EOT in accordance with your contract, please speak to Oldham Construction Lawyers and we can draft special conditions and contracts for you.
